Places of interest: From the Schiederweiher pond to the Kalvarienberg church
Built between 1897 and 1902 by k.u.k. The reservoir at the end of the village of Hinterstoder, built between 1897 and 1902 by imperial and royal court architect Johann Schieder, is not only a place of power and a popular excursion destination in Upper Austria, but also Austria's most beautiful place.

The Kalkalpen National Park - a very special Upper Austrian excursion tip - is the largest beech forest conservation area in the Alps and Austria's first UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2017. Accompanied by national park rangers, you will discover the diversity of the mountain forests and alpine pastures and experience wild animals in their original habitat. Nature lovers will marvel at the return of the forest wilderness, delight in wild orchids or enjoy leisurely alpine hikes. Adventure-seekers can immerse themselves in the mysterious underworld of the Limestone Alps.
Over eight kilometers above sea level. The new Alpine Museum in Spital am Pyhrn in Upper Austria takes visitors into the world of extreme mountaineers! How do people think and feel at this altitude? What does it take to climb the highest peaks? In the new museum "Between Heaven and Earth - Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner and the World of the 8000ers" in Spital am Pyhrn, you can immerse yourself in the world of the Himalayas. The patron of the 400 m² exhibition is Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, who was born in Spital and is an extreme mountaineer. She presents her experiences on the world's 14 8,000-meter peaks, describes the extreme physical and psychological strains and allows visitors to share her feelings, thoughts and insights during the various phases of a high-alpine expedition.
A special experience room takes visitors to the extreme heights, the steepness of the walls and lets them feel the power of the wind. The climbing tower in front of the museum is modeled on K2 and can be climbed via various ascent routes.
A special app guides visitors from the "base camp" to the "high camp". Experienced athletes continue from there to the summit of the Great Pyhrgas.
The Alpineum is a modern, award-winning exhibition center and always worth a visit. It presents the past of the Stodertal valley, the life-threatening work of the lumberjacks, the history of alpine development of the Totes Gebirge and the development of skiing from its beginnings to today's World Cup.
The modern museum building, erected in 1998, is neither a dusty "local history museum" nor an outdated presentation of the local area, but instead shows historical and current videos, acoustic effects and a downhill skiing simulator, on which you can experience the thrill of speed during a downhill run, and an avalanche transceiver in an entertaining way. The idea of the Alpineum is to connect yesterday with tomorrow - and it succeeds brilliantly.
At the "Museum of the Year Award 2000", the Alpineum was voted one of the best exhibition houses in Europe. Successful special exhibitions on a wide variety of topics underline the museum's connection to the past.
The Kalvarienberg church was built in 1778, consecrated in 1844 and renovated in 1998. It offers a wonderful view over the Windischgarstnertal valley in Upper Austria and a Passion procession every Friday during Lent.
